Kingsbridge Imps Gala

Kingsbridge Kingfishers were the hosts on Saturday 29th October 2005 for an IMPS Gala (9-12yrs.) This was an excellent opportunity for our youngest swimmers to build on experience gained from the recent Club Championships. We took a good proportion of selected swimmers for an excellent evening of competition. Opposition included Dawlish, Kingsbridge, Exmouth and Paignton. Once again the swimmers were well supported by both spectators and senior squad swimmers at the poolside.

Devonport’s first win came from Reece Dunn (10yrs) in the 50m Butterfly (46.95), Reece continued his good form also winning the 50m Backstroke in a time of 45.16. Rebecca Ward (10yrs) swam an excellent race to take the 50m Backstroke (41.67).

There were many closely fought races with the lead frequently changing hands. By the half way mark, Dawlish were out in front with 106 points followed closely by Kingsbridge with 91 points,
Devonport held third with 70 points, Exmouth and Paignton followed with 55 and 52 points respectively.

We were depleted in younger male swimmers, however, our boys showed tenacity in some nip and tuck relays. Nat Chartres (12yrs) swam an excellent race taking the 50m Breaststroke in a time of 42.61. Holly Smith swam an outstanding 50m Butterfly in a time of 36.09!

Dawlish lead throughout remained on top at the finish with 217 points, followed by Kingsbridge with 176 points,
Devonport maintained third place with 143 points, Paignton followed with 119 points and finally Exmouth with 113 points.

Well Done to all our swimmers for an excellent performance. A huge “Thank you” to all out coaches in particular Terry Mansell for his commitment and encouragement for which I know every swimmer is grateful. Well Done - IMPS!
