Bodmin Open Meet Sat 5th Nov 2005

The eighth annual Bodmin open meet took place on Saturday 5th November. Eighteen teams participated in this year’s competition. Devonport had 11 representatives who enjoyed a busy day of competition. Medals were awarded to the top 6 swimmers in each event.

Nicki Stepp (15yrs) had an outstanding day finishing 1st in the 100m backstroke and 100m IM, 2nd in the 100m butterfly and 100m breaststroke and 3rd in the 100m freestyle. Nicki finished in 1st place overall in the girls 15 years age group.

Holly Smith (12yrs) had an excellent gala finishing 1st in the 50m breaststroke, 2nd in the 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly and 3rd in the 100m IM. She took 2nd place overall in the girls 12 years age group.

Jade Leeke (13yrs) swam well to take 1st place in the 100m breaststroke. In addition she finished 5th in the 100m IM. Jade finished 6th overall in the 13 years age group.

Tom Morse (13yrs) claimed 4th place in the 100m freestyle and 5th place in the 100m IM. Tom finished 8th overall.

Tom Mermagen (13yrs) finished 3rd in the 100m butterfly and finished in 6th place overall.

Abby McBeath (13yrs) took 5th in the 100m butterfly and finished 9th overall.

Abbey Ward (14yrs) was 5th in the 100m butterfly and was in 5th place overall.

Jordan Nicholson (14yrs) finished in 10th place overall.

Aaron Nicholson (12yrs) finished 18th in his age group.

Rebecca Ward finished 10th in the girls 10 years age group, her team mate Paige McBeath was 9th overall in the 11 years age group.

For
Devonport to claim so many individual placings was quite an achievement against so many regional clubs with large squads.

Devonport had some excellent swims on the day against quality clubs, thanks to Brian Mermagen and Lin Stepp, for their help at poolside. Most importantly, thanks to our swimmers for an excellent days competition.
