Central Park, Plymouth were hosts to the Devon Inter-club championships on Sunday 5 February. Devonport competed alongside fifteen other regional clubs.

Our squad was unfortunately depleted by six swimmers; this made our task difficult from the outset. Kelly College and Torquay Leander also found they couldn’t field a squad.

Devonport began brightly with Charlotte Evans finishing 7 in the 11 and under 50m freestyle. Charlotte went on to take a 6 place in the 50m butterfly. Tom Morse picked up 5 place in the 13 and under 50m backstroke. Emma Williams swam well finishing 3 in the 11 and under 50m backstroke. Chris Philpot took a strong 3 place in the 13 and under 50m freestyle.

Several swimmers swam across two age categories. Nicki Stepp, Chris Philpot, Jade Leeke, Tom Morse, Tom Mermagen and Abbey Ward, Well done! Plymouth Leander were out in front from the start and went on to take the championships for this year. Devonport finished in 15 place. Well done and thank you to those swimmers who stepped in at the last minute.

Valuable experience and confidence can be taken from this gala and we can now look forward to the Devon Championships over the next few weeks.
