Central Park were hosts to the annual Devon Country Sprint Gala on Saturday 25^th March. A capacity crowd were treated to some excellent swimming! Devonport had thirty-three representatives. Many younger club members were competing in their first Devon Gala. Numerous personal best times were recorded from junior through to senior squad members. From the performances put in by the younger club members it’s clear to see the potential talent we have for the future.

Robert Smith (9yrs) took 4^th place in the 50m butterfly followed by 6^th place overall in the 50m breaststroke, backstroke and freestyle. Older brother Andrew Smith (14yrs) was 3^rd overall in the 50m breaststroke, 4^th in the butterfly, 5^th in the backstroke and 6^th in the freestyle. Reece Dunn (10yrs) was in consistent form taking 4^th place in the butterfly, backstroke and freestyle. Holly Smith took 4^th overall in the 13yrs 50m butterfly and 5^th in the 50m breaststroke. Tom Morse (13yrs) finished 3^rd overall in the 50m backstroke and 4^th in both the 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle. Jade Leeke (14yrs) finished in 5^th place overall in the 50m breaststroke and went on to take 6^th in both the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle. Joe Saunders finished in 4^th place overall in the 14yrs 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle followed by a 5^th in the 50m breaststroke. Abby McBeath (14yrs) was 4^th overall in the 50m backstroke and 6^th in the 50m butterfly. Emma Williams (11yrs) was 4^th overall in the 50m backstroke and 6^th in the butterfly. Chris Philpott (14yrs) took 5^th place in the 50m freestyle and 6^th in the 50m backstroke. Abbey Ward (14yrs) took 5^th place overall in the 50m backstroke. Sinead Davies (10yrs) took 6^th place overall in the 50m backstroke.

Devonport also had several winners of BAGCAT awards, notably: Reece Dunn, who finished 4^th in the 10yrs age group. Tom Morse took 4^th in the 13yrs category. Holly Smith was 6^th in the 13yrs age group. Jade Leeke was 6^th in the 14yrs category, Joe Saunders took 4^th in the 14yrs age group followed by Andrew Smith 5^th and Chris Philpott 6^th.

It was a busy days swimming for all who competed and for all the coaching staff but rewarding to see so many personal best times and BAGCAT awards. Fantastic effort Devonport!
