Devonport Royal Swimming Association’s news and other information
The first round of this year’s Cornwall & West Devon League took place on Saturday 8th April 2006 at St. Austell. The venue for this gala has seen some alterations recently which means that the spectator area is now separated from the poolside, so all supporters have to watch the races from behind large windows. This made for a quieter and more subdued atmosphere than normal but this did not appear to affect our swimmers who went on to dead-heat for second place with Carn Brea.
There were some excellent swims and several PB’s achieved. DRSA gained six 1st places: Reece Dunn in the 11/under 25m butterfly; Nat Chartres in the 13/under 50m breaststroke; Tom Morse won two events, the 13/under 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke; the boys 13/under relay team consisting of Tom Mermagen, Nat Chartres, Peter Gates and Tom Morse, also won two events, the 4 x 50m medley relay and the 4 x 50m freestyle relay.
The final placings were: 1st Plymouth Leander 187 points, DH 2nd Devonport & Carn Brea 116 points, 4th St. Austell 88 points.Next round Saturday 6th May, venue TBA.
