Exmouth Friendly Gala

Devonport’s squad travelled to Exmouth on Saturday 13th May for a friendly gala. We had some swimmers missing but despite this produced an excellent afternoon’s swimming. Sidvale, Ilfracombe, Okehampton and Exmouth made up the opposition. Every swimmer gave a creditable performance.

Our first wins came from Holly Smith and Tom Morse in the 13 years and under 100m IM. Tom went on to take another individual first in the 13 and under 50m backstroke.

Louise Brightwell swam a thrilling last leg in the 4 x 50m open medley relay to ensure a tight finish for first and second place.

The first points count saw Devonport lying in second place with 61 points and Exmouth ahead with 75 points.

Rebekah James took another win in the 11 and under 25m butterfly.

Jodie LePage in the open 100m backstroke was also successful.

Nat Chartres continued Devonport’s success by winning the boys 13 and under 50m breaststroke.

Devonport were still in second position by event 39 of the 58 events with 126 points to Exmouth’s 145 points.

Our relay teams were in good form taking the girls 11 and under 4 x 25m freestyle relay, Natalie Jarry, Rebecca Ward, Alex Lynch and Rebekah James.

The boys 13 and under 4 x 50m freestyle relay team were in winning form, Tom Mermagen, Nat Chartres, Tom Morse and Peter Gates.

The girls 15 and under 4 x 50m freestyle team were convincing winners, Abbey Ward, Jade Leeke, Nicki Stepp and Abby McBeath.

The final race of the evening, the 8 x 25m freestyle Cannon relay was nip and tuck, clinched over the final leg by a great swim from the boys team captain, Adam Wilkins.

There were some fine swims and personal best times taken. The final result placed Okehampton in 5th with 111 points, Sidvale in 4th with 142 points, Devonport were edged into 3rd with 184 points, 2 points ahead were Ilfracombe with 186 points and gala winners were the home team Exmouth with 222 points.
