The City of Plymouth Championships concluded on Sunday 29th October with Devonport’s medal haul increasing from 78 medals taken from the first weekend, to an impressive medal total of 106.
Jordan Nicholson (15yrs) again excelled recording a Championship Best Time (CBT) in the 50m Breastroke (40.75.) He added two further gold medals for the 100m Freestyle, 200m IM and a silver in the 50m Butterfly.
Sinead Davies (10yrs) was again in winning form taking a CBT for 100m Breastroke in an outstanding 1.35.26.
Devonport’s boys added to the medal tally with Tom Mermagen (14yrs) taking a gold for the 50m Butterfly, silver for his efforts in the 1500m Freestyle and two further bronze medals for the 100m Freestyle and 50m Breastroke.
In the same age group, Ryan Moreno-Chamorro took an excellent gold in the 50m Breaststroke (36.94) and added a bronze for the 50m Butterfly.
Chris Philpott clinched a hat-trick of silver medals for the 100m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly and 200m IM.
Sam Tucker took a bronze medal for the 200m IM.
Sam Leeke (12yrs) and Sam Bowden (11yrs) added further bronze medals for the 100m Freestyle.
Aaron Nicholson (13yrs) was also a bronze medal winner in the 1500m Freestyle.
The girls gave an excellent account of themselves with Abbey Ward (15yrs) achieving two golds from the 400m IM and 800m Freestyle, she added silver for the 50m Butterfly and double bronze medals from the 100m Breastroke and 200m Freestyle.
Sam Wilkes (14yrs) took three silver medals from the 50m Butterfly, 100m Breastroke and 200m Freestyle.
Jade Leeke (14yrs) took two further bronze medals from the 50m Butterfly and 100m Breastroke.
Devonport had finalists in the 100m Freestyle, Chris Philpott and Jordan Nicholson finished 4th and 6th respectively. Sam Wilkes was our representative in the 100m Breastroke final finishing in 3rd place.
BAGCATS awards were given to the top six swimmers in their respective age groups. Devonport has several winners; Sinead Davies took 3rd spot overall in the ten years age group. Rebecca Ward took 6th in the 11 years category. Sam Leeke (12yrs) took 6th spot in his age group. Nat Chartres (13yrs) took 4th place. For the 14 years age group, Devonport had 4 of the 6 age group winners. Chris Philpot 2nd, Ryan Moreno-Chamorro 4th, Tom Mermagen 5th and Sam Tucker 6th.
To finish out City Championships with so many medal positions is a great achievement, well done to all our swimmers!
