Weymouth was the venue for the second round of the Speedo league. It was to be an exciting encounter, with excellent performances from our swimmers. The travelling support was also in fine voice encouraging every swimmer. Carn Brea, Torquay, Wells-Shepton Mallett, Paignton and the home team Weymouth made up the opposition.

Our girls 11 and under relay team were double winners taking both the freestyle and medley relays convincingly, Victoria Philpot, Rebekah James, Sinead Davies and Rebecca Ward. Our boys 15 and under freestyle relay team were successful in event seven, Tom Mermagen, Danny Banks, Ryan Moreno-Chamorro and Chris Philpot. This was quickly followed by Rebecca Ward taking the top spot in the 11 and under 50m backstroke. After 18 events, Devonport were shaded into 4th spot with 61 points. Wells-Shepton Mallet and Paignton had 68 points equally and Carn Brea were ahead with 86 points. Rebekah James took another first in the 11 and under 50m butterfly. Peter Gates matched this with a fine win in the 13 and under 50m backstroke. After 42 events Devonport were in 3rd place with 153 points, Wells-Shepton Mallet were slightly ahead with 159 points and Carn Brea continued to set the pace with 187 points. The relays followed with the boys 13 and under freestyle team taking an exciting win, Aaron Nicholson, Nat Chartres, Sam Bowden and Peter Gates. A dubious disqualification followed for the girls 15 and under medley team ,however the boys 15 and under medley team steered us back on track with a first place, Danny Banks, Jordan Nicholson, Chris Philpot and Ryan Moreno-Chamorro.
