Devonport Royal Swimming Association’s news and other information
The final event of the 2006 Club Championships took place on Friday 10th November. No fewer than 26 new club records were set over the five galas. It was great to see so many club swimmers participating in all the events.
Gala one had several new records set. Robert Smith took the 9-10 years 50m butterfly in a record breaking 46.40. Sam Bowden (11-12 years) swam a great race to record 39.14 also in the 50m butterfly. Danny Banks took a record in the same event for the 15-16 age group in a time of 30.58.
Sinead Davies was also in top form taking the 9-10 years 50m breaststroke in 45.37.
Holly Smith (13-14) took the 50m breastroke record in 40.06.
Other records were to fall for Sinead in the 100m freestyle in a time of 1.24.82 and the 50m freestyle (37.04.)
Gala two saw several swimmers re-write the record books in the 9-10 years 50m backstroke, Jonathan Hall recorded 43.87. Other 50m backstroke records that were set went to Chris Philpot (33.78) for the 13-14 age group and Jordan Nicholson (34.51) for the 15-16 category.
Jodie LePage claimed a record in the 17 & over age group for the 50m freestyle (30.23,) Sam Wilkes (13-14 years) also took top spot in a time of 31.09.
A long standing record of 12 years fell to Sinead Davies for her efforts in the 100m IM, (1.32.09.)
Gala three continued to impress with Ryan Moreno-Chamorro (13-14) recording a time of 36.46 for the 50m breastroke.
The girls 50m butterfly saw three records go. Sinead Davies took 4 seconds off the existing record in a new time of 39.64. Holly Smith set a time of 34.87 and Jodie LePage 33.32. Jodie had another record breaking swim in the 100m backstroke, 1.16.31.
Sam Bowden had a successful 100m freestyle in a record time of 1.15.29.
Chris Philpot recorded a time of 1.03.50 in the same event.
Gala four showed no decline in new championship times being set. Sinead Davies’ outstanding form continued with her recording another excellent time in the 50m backstroke (40.56.) She added the 100m breastroke 1.38.17 to her seven record breaking swims!
Chris Philpot set a new time of 28.61 for the 50m freestyle. Danny Banks added the same event to his record tally with a time of 27.80.
Jonathan Hall created a new time of 1.50.60 for the 100m breastroke.
The 400m freestyle was the finale to what has been an outstanding few weeks swimming.
