Tavistock were the hosts for a friendly inter club gala on Saturday 20^th January. It was a good warm up to the early part of the season for Devonport.
The age groups included 10 and under competitors which enabled the club to give our younger swimmers valuable gala experience.
Exmouth and Tavistock were the remaining competing clubs, Okehampton were due to make up the opposition but were unable to attend.
Devonport recorded fifteen winning places including the girls 12 and under 4×50m medley relay team, Rebecca Ward, Sinead Davies, Rebekah James and Kirsty Dinham. The 15 and over girls were also medley winners, Jodie Le Page, Sally Jones, Nicki Stepp and Abbey Ward. Robert Smith took the 10 and under 50m backstroke and Sinead Davies added the 12 and under 50m breastroke to our winning tally. Abby McBeath took top spot  in the 14 and under backstroke. Tom Mermagen took 1^st in the 14 and under 100m butterfly. Devonport then took the following three races the 10 and under 50m breastroke, Rachael Ward. The boys equalled this performance taking the 10 and under 50m breastroke with Jon Hall. Rebekah James completed the trio of wins in the 12 and under 50m butterfly. Fiona Smith clinched the 14 and under 100m freestyle. Nat Chartres went on to take the 14 and under 100m breastroke and team captain Adam Wilkins, took a win in the 15 and over 100m freestyle. Our final win of the evening came from the girls 15 and over 6×50m freestyle relay team, Jade Leeke, Abbey Ward, Nicki Stepp, Sally Jones, Jodie Le Page and Louise Brightwell.
Exmouth had lead throughout the gala and finished 1^st with 116 points, Devonport were 2^nd with 96 points and Tavistock 3^rd with 83 points. Well done to all our swimmers especially the younger competitors who gave an excellent account of themselves throughout the evening.
