Devonport travelled the short journey to Tavistock on Saturday 21st April for a friendly interclub gala. Okehampton and Tavistock made up the opposition. The age groups included 10 and under, which gave the clubs’ younger members an excellent opportunity to experience the atmosphere of a competitive gala. The team spirit amongst the competitors added to the evening’s entertainment. Devonport took 22 wins from the 50 events, again scoring strongly in the relays.
The girls 10 and under relay team took both the medley and freestyle events, Rachel Ward, Connie McGregor, Aimee O’Hallorhan and Kerrie Hayes. The girls 12 and under team clinched the medley relay, Rebecca Ward, Charlotte Roberts, Kirsty Dinham and Victoria Philpot. The girls 14 and under team were also in top form taking both relays, Sinead Davies, Laura Moreno-Chamorro, Charlotte O’Hallorhan and Sam Wilkes were competitors in the freestyle relay. Fiona Smith swam in the medley relay. To maintain the girls’ great form the 15 and over team also claimed first in both relays. Abby McBeath, Jade Leeke, Nicki Stepp and Abbey Ward with Sam Wilkes and Fiona Smith added to take the 6 x 50m freestyle event. The boys 14 and under team of Sam Bowden, Michael Warren, Aaron Nicholson and Nat Chartres were winners in the 4 x 50m freestyle relay with Aaron and Nat competing alongside Tom Morse and Tom Mermagen to take the medley relay.
Kerrie Hayes swam strongly to take the 50m backstroke with Robert Smith also taking top spot in the same event. Fiona Smith was in good form taking the 14 and under 100m backstroke with Tom Morse also matching this performance in the boys event.Rachel Ward took the 10 and under butterfly (50.29). Rebecca Ward clinched the 50m backstroke in the 12 and under event (39.45).
Laura Moreno-Chamorro swam an outstanding race taking the 14 and under 100m butterfly despite swimming up an age group (1.32.89).Abby McBeath was in great form to take the 15 and over 100m backstroke.
Kirsty Dinham took the 12 and under 50m butterfly in 46.09.
Sam Wilkes swam a great race to take the 14 and under 100m freestyle (1.09.89.)
Victoria Philpot was a winner in the 12 and under 50m freestyle (34.07) alongside Sam Bowden who clinched the boys event (33.01.)Sinead Davies also featured in the 14 and under 100m breastroke, swimming up an age group and taking top spot (1.34.06.)
The final event, the boys 15 and over 6 x 50m freestyle relay was a compelling race which saw Danny Banks, Chris Philpot, Ryan Moreno-Chamorro, Jordan Nicholson, Tom Morse and Tom Mermagen battle to come out on top (2.49.98) fantastic!At the conclusion Devonport were placed second with 105 points, Okehampton third with 72 points and Tavistock home winners with 115 points. To add to a great evening the Devonport supporters won three out of the four raffle prizes, perfect!! Well done Devonport and big thanks to Terry on poolside!
