Plymouth Leander hosted the annual Margaret Gardner memorial Championships on the 28th and 29th July. Devonport were well represented and achieved many top three placings. Ryan Moreno-Chamorro (15yrs) had nine first places and six second places over the weekend. Ryan was in top spot for the 50m, 100m and 200m breastroke, 50m and 200m backstroke, 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly and the 200m IM.
Jade Leeke also in the same age group had nine first places and one second place. Jade took the 50m, 100m and 200m breastroke, 50m and 200m freestyle, 50m and 100m backstroke, 50m butterfly and 100m IM.
Nat Chartres (14yrs) also had a busy meet, taking three first places, three seconds and two thirds. Winning races for Nat were the 50m and 100m freestyle and 50m backstroke.Laura Moreno-Chamorro (12yrs) took three second places and one third in a tough age group, with some fine swimming.Jacob Roberts (13yrs) had two wins notably in the 200m and 400m freestyle, a second place followed in the 50m freestyle.
Sam Bowden (12yrs) was in good form taking the 50m and 100m breastroke and added the 100m freestyle to his winning tally.
Angus Robertson (11yrs) had a win in the tough 400m IM and three further second places.Charlotte Roberts also in this age group took second place in the 200m breastroke, alongside Kirsty Dinham who had third place in the 50m butterfly.
Connie McGregor (10yrs) also had a third place in the 50m backstroke.Connor Andrews (9yrs) had a second place in the 100m backstroke and two third places.
In the same age group Samuel Roberts had second place in the 50m breastroke.In the youngest age group Finlay Bowden and Bethany Ward had great success in the eight and under events. Finlay was in top spot for the 25m backstroke and 100m IM, he also clinched second place in the 25m butterfly and 200m freestyle.
Bethany had a good win in the 200m freestyle and two third places in the 25m backstroke and 25m freestyle.Well done to all our competing swimmers who achieved many personal best performances and to our team managers and poolside officials for their generous commitment to the club.
