Devonport Royal Swimming Association’s news and other information
The annual city of Plymouth championships took place over Saturday 6th October and Sunday 7th October with a third concluding day scheduled for Saturday 27th October.
Devonport Royal, Plymouth Leander, Dinnaton, Kingsbridge Kingfishers, RNRM, Tavistock and Kelly College all had competing teams in an excellent weekends swimming.
Devonport had a fantastic medal haul taking 30 gold, 7 silver and 13 bronze medals over the two days competition.
Jade Leeke (15yrs) claimed 9 gold medals in her age group. This included the 50m and 200m breastroke, 50m and 100m backstroke, 50m, 100m, 400m freestyle and then adding the 100m IM and 200m IM.
Jordan Nicholson (16yrs) took 8 gold medals, the 50m, 200m, 400m freestyle, 50m, 100m, 200m backstroke, the 100m and 400m IM and a silver in the 100m butterfly. Jordan went on to make the 100m backstroke final, clinching third place overall and the 100m IM final taking 5th place.
Ryan Moreno-Chamorro (15yrs) also had a successful meet, claiming 4 gold medals, the 200m backstroke, 100m and 200m breastroke and 200m butterfly. Silver followed in the 50m backstroke and bronze medals in the 400m freestyle and 100m backstroke.
Ryan swam a great race to finish runner up in the 100m breastroke final.
Tom Mermagen (15yrs) had 3 golds from the 200m and 400m freestyle followed by a great performance in the 100m butterfly. This earned him a place in the final where Tom swam a thrilling race to be fractionally edged into second. Tom had a silver medal in the 50m freestyle and a bronze in the 50m backstroke.
Chris Philpot also 15yrs had 3 gold medals including the 50m freestyle, 100m IM and 100m backstroke with the latter earning him a place in the final. Chris took 2nd place in a highly competitive final. Chris also achieved a place in the 100m IM final finishing in 6th place.
Abbey Ward (16yrs) had a busy meet taking gold in the 100m butterfly and 200m breastroke events. Silver in the 400m freestyle and bronze medals for the 50m, 100m, 200m backstroke and 50m breastroke.
Nat Chartres (14yrs) had gold in the 50m freestyle, silver for the 50m backstroke and 200m breastroke, followed by bronze for the 100m breastroke. Nat took a place in the final for this event taking 6th place.
Angus Robertson (11yrs) had silver in the 200m backstroke and three bronze medals including the 100m and 200m breastroke and 200m freestyle.
Sinéad Davies (11yrs) had two bronze medals for the 200m backstroke and 100m butterfly.
Connor Andrews (9yrs) matched this with bronze in the 100m IM and 200m freestyle.
Aaron Nicholson (14yrs) took a silver medal in the 200m butterfly.
Michael Warren (14yrs) earned a bronze in the 200m breastroke.
Peter Gates (14yrs) had bronze in the 50m backstroke.
With so many medals being decided this weekend, there was some tenacious swimming to take medal places. Well done to all the swimmers who competed. Huge thanks to the officials, team coaches and poolside helpers who always give their time so generously and to Devonport’s supportive spectators!
