Devonport Royal Swimming Association’s news and other information
The third and final day of the City Championships took place on Saturday 27th October. Devonport enhanced their medal haul adding a further nine gold medals, ten silver and eight bronze to their tally.
Ryan Moreno-Chamorro (15yrs) had five top three places notably taking gold in the 50m breaststroke with a great new championship winning time of 36.01. Ryan added the 200m IM to his winning form. He went on to take silver in the 50m butterfly and bronze medals for the 100m and 1500m freestyle.
Chris Philpot also 15yrs, added to Devonport’s gold medal total taking first for the 50m butterfly and 100m freestyle. This performance earned him a place in the championship final where Chris took third place.Jordan Nicholson (16yrs) had two golds for the 1500m freestyle and 200m IM. He took two further silver medals in the 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly.
Jade Leeke (15yrs) took top spot in both the 50m butterfly and 100m breaststroke.Sinead Davies also clinched top spot for the 100m breaststroke in the 11 yrs age group in a great time.(1.31.16).
Kirsty Dinham (11yrs) took a bronze medal in the same event and silver for the 800m freestyle.Peter Gates (14yrs) took a silver medal for the 50m butterfly and bronze in the 50m breaststroke.
Abbey Ward (16yrs) matched this performance in the 50m butterfly and went on to clinch bronze for the 100m breaststroke.Aaron Nicholson (14yrs) took silver for the 200m IM and added two further bronze medals for the 50m butterfly and 1500m freestyle.
Sam Bowden (12yrs) was again impressive taking silver in the 100m freestyle (1.08.42).Nat Chartres also claimed silver for the 50m breaststroke (37.61).
Connie McGregor (10yrs) had silver for the 100m breaststroke.Michael Warren (14yrs) took a bronze in the 200m IM.
BAGCATS awards go to girls between 9 and 13 years, this extends to 14 years for boys.Devonport had several top six winners in their respective age groups. Bethany Ward was 4th in the 9 yrs age group. Sinead Davies matched this for the 11yrs age group.
Male winners included Connor Andrews, 3rd overall and Sam Dinham 4th in the 9yrs age group.The 11 yr age group had Angus Robertson in 4th place and Nat Chartres had an excellent 2nd place overall for the 14yrs age group.
Swimmers have continued to improve on their times, some only recently achieved. Thanks go to chief coach Terry Mansell and to all the poolside helpers and officials for their time and commitment to these championships.
