Tavistock were the hosts for a friendly inter club gala on Saturday 26th January. It was a good warm up to the early part of the season for Devonport.
Devonport recorded fourteen winning places including the girls 11/U 4×50m freestyle relay team, Tait Marles, Rhiannon Davies, Bethany Ward and Chloe Thompson. The 15/U girls freestyle relay team were also winners, Victoria Philpot, Rebecca Ward, Sinead Davies and Laura Moreno-Chamorro, they also triumphed in the medley relay. Abby McBeath, Jade Leeke, Denise Ward and Louise Brightwell won the ladies open medley relay. Individually the winners were Nat Chartres in the 15/U 100m backstroke and the open 100m freestyle. Finley Bowden took first place in the 11/U 50m backstroke, with his brother Sam winning the 13/U 50m freestyle. The boys went on to win the open 100m butterfly courtesy of Tom Mermagen, and Tom Wills and Ryan Moreno-Chamorro won the 100m breaststroke in the open and 15/U respectively. Kirsty Dinham took a win in the 13/U 50m butterfly, while Rebecca Ward won the 15/U 100m backstroke and Victoria Philpot was the winner in the 15/U 100m freestyle.
Although the points were quite close at the beginning of the gala, Exmouth pulled ahead and were the winners on 106 points. Tavistock were 2nd with 99 points and Devonport 3rd with 85 points.
Well done to all our swimmers who gave an excellent account of themselves throughout the evening.
