Devonport Royal Swimming Association’s news and other information
The City of Plymouth Championships started this weekend, 4th and 5th October. DRSA along with Dinnaton, Kelly College, Kingsbridge, Plymouth Leander, RnRm and Tavistock all fielded teams.
Over the two days Devonport’s 19 competitors accumulated 14 gold, 21 silver and 16 bronze medals, and also over 50 PBs.
In the 17 and over age group Jordan Nicholson achieved four 1st places, 100m and 200m backstroke, 100m IM and 200m freestyle. He also reached the finals of the 100m IM (1.08.09) and 100m backstroke (1.07.34) finishing 2nd in both. Abbey Ward received silver in the100m butterfly, and two bronze in the 100m freestyle and 200m IM.
The 16 year olds earned 17 medals between them. Ryan Moreno Chamorro won four gold, 200m backstroke, 200m freestyle, 200m and 100m breaststroke (2.48.56 and 1.17.22). Three silver, 50m and 100m backstroke and 400m freestyle and a bronze in the 100m IM. Ryan also reached the final of the 100m breaststroke and in a very tight finish came 5th (1.17.57). Jade Leeke won two gold, 50m and 200m breaststroke, two silver 50m freestyle and 100m backstroke, and three bronze, 100m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 100m IM. Tom Mermagen gained gold in both the 400m freestyle and 100m butterfly (1.10.33) and silver in the 50m freestyle. He also finished 4th in the 100m butterfly final (1.10.60).
For the 15 year olds Nat Chartres achieved two gold, 200m freestyle and 50m freestyle, in which he recorded a new City of Plymouth time (27.13). He also gained three silver, 100m backstroke, 100m breaststroke and 100m IM, and a bronze in the 50m backstroke.
Jacob Roberts -14 year olds- won two silver, 200m and 400m freestyle, and two bronze, 50m and 100m backstroke.
Four thirteen year olds received medals, Sam Bowden, Jason Fotopoulos, Rebecca Ward and Victoria Philpot.Sam won four silver, 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 100m butterfly and 200m freestyle, and two bronze, 100m breaststroke and IM. Jason had two bronze in the 50m freestyle and backstroke. Rebecca took silver and Victoria bronze in the 50m backstroke.
Rhiannon Davies and Finley Bowden won medals in the 9 years old age group. Rhiannon gained two silver, 200m backstroke and 200m IM, and Finley received two bronze in the 200m breaststroke and 200mbackstroke.
The final day of the championship is on 25th October.
